Customer demand has made us focus on the US energy market. And due to customers arriving from other parts of Northern Europe, we no longer focus solely on Danish customers. For those reasons, the name Boston Denmark Partnerships no longer applies, and so we have a new website: Muninsight

- Boston: The center of a vibrant Life Sciences cluster

The Life Sciences cluster that has its center in Boston, Massachusetts, is one of the largest and well established centers for biotechnology and medical device research and development. 7% of the world’s pipeline for new drugs is being developed in Massachusetts and the industry is comprised of approximately 600 biotechnology companies, 475 medical device manufacturers and 75 pharmaceutical companies employing 75.000 people. Furthermore the cluster encompasses a rich array of universities and hospitals directly involved in life sciences and a broad experienced group of supporting organizations. The biotech industry grew 42.6 percent between 2001 and 2008, according to the Massachusetts Biotechnology Council and experts predict that the number of employees in the industry will balloon to over 200,000 by 2012.

- But what is it that fosters this environment and what are the special conditions that a company can benefit from by having a presents in this market?
Location advantages
1. Boston is a location rich in academic excellence. Harvard University, the oldest university in the US, is based in Cambridge just outside of Boston where also Massachusetts Institute of Technology is located. The area consists of more than 120 colleges and universities fostering a highly innovative environment rich on entrepreneurial activities.
2. Massachusetts has one of the strongest workforces in the US based on knowledge and productivity thanks to the large number of academic institutions. Of this workforce nearly 1 out of 7 people within the area are working in the Life Sciences sector.
3. The state also has strong state and federal support with the recognition that policy has a huge impact on strengthening the cluster. This includes an impressive array of economic development programs, tax benefits and multiple incubators for early stage companies. Furthermore the community is composed of at least 5 large healthcare angel networks and over 50 venture capital groups.
We at Boston Denmark Partnerships feel that there exists a clear fit between the Scandinavian based Medicon Valley cluster and the vibrant Life Science cluster in the Boston area. The unique set of conditions existing in Massachusetts can provide the competitive advantage necessary to succeed in the North American market.
