Everyone knows Silicon Valley, and it is undoubtedly the world's center for IT startups. But Boston is number 2, and not so shabby. There are many angels, individuals who have had success, and who are looking to assist new startups and to live the excitement again. Google Venture is in town, and many VC companies are looking for the next big thing. Boston has a reputation for being more risk averse than Silicon Valley, and you can argue the pros and cons of that.
There are many user groups in Boston, with anything from MySQL to Ruby on Rails. For IT companies, having the ability to go once a week to meet like minded individuals and get answers to thorny problems is a great boon.
