Arne Hessenbruch

Arne Hessenbruch has helped teach a Masters level course on commercialization of research at MIT for half a dozen years (3.207). Here the focus is on the history of x-rays and radiology from discovery to its routine hospital use. He illustrates the surprising changes in business models over time, as successive stakeholding groups were convinced and enrolled, as advances in electrical and vacuum technology increased the use of x-rays in medicine, and as reimbursement changed. He holds a PhD in History and Philosophy of Science from the University of Cambridge (UK), and an M.Sc. in Physics from Freiburg University (Germany). He has been a research fellow at both MIT and Harvard, and has more than 100 publications to his name. Arne speaks English, Danish and German fluently, and can get by in French and Mandarin Chinese.
