US journalists discuss wind energy stories

A discussion on the US media's attitude to wind energy took place at Harvard's Kennedy School of Government on 16 February 2011. Elisabeth Rosenthal of the New York Times (standing at the podium) and Beth Daley of the Boston Globe participated, along with Alex Jones of the KSG and Henry Lee of the Environment and Natural Resources Program.

US Media Journalists on Wind Energy Panel

The US debate was described as highly partisan, along political party lines. The difference in attitude to the the aesthetics of wind turbines in the landscape between the US and Europe was discussed, and an explanation of the reasons for this difference was sought for. The ubiquity of wind turbines in Denmark was mentioned several times.

The reduction in journalistic staff was also discussed, and how this leads to an increased difficulty of covering stories that are simultaneously environmental, political, economical and technological.
